Commonwealth Games To Aid Australian Sport
In the wake of a cricket scandal that just seems to go from bad to worse, Australia is hoping that the Commonwealth Games at the Gold Coast will restore the reputation of the country and of those who put sport first, and don’t bring it in to disrepute.
The Commonwealth Games kick off on April the 4th and runs until the 15th and there’s hope that this event will give Australia a little bit of time to put back together their reputation. The ball tampering scandal is one that has really rocked the nation to the core, and with the Games just around the corner, there’s some hope for redemption.
Gold Coast Games’ chairperson Peter Beattie has stated that the Games will restore the Aussie’s reputation, and they can repair the damage done by the cricket team. He said the Games are set to attract a huge number of local and international visitors to Queensland, and will restore faith and smooth over the scandal.

Beattie admitted that the ball tampering scandal had done major damage to Australia’s reputation as a sporting nation, and that they were determined to be a cheat free zone. He acknowledged that behavior on and off the field was important and that the sporting heroes were paid handsomely for what they did, and that the cricketers involved had not acting in a manner that was befitting such status.
With such a massive outcry about the ball tampering scandal Beattie’s words may fall on deaf ears, but hopefully the Commonwealth Games will go some way to showing that the Aussie’s don’t need to resort to dirty tactics to win.
