Chris Froome Held Back By Knee Injury
British four-time Tour de France winner Chris Froome is being forced to push back his preparations for the new season by a knee injury.
According to a comment made by Froome on his official YouTube channel, the cyclist damaged a tendon in his knee during a pre-season training session. He added that the injury caused him paid while pedalling, and furthermore said it had likely been the result of his having been pushing too hard while freshly back into training.
The 36-year-old described the delay in getting back on the bike as a major setback. He said the injury is now causing uncertainty over a possible timeframe for staring the new racing year.
But the Brit is no stranger to overcoming injuries. He previously fractured his femur, hip, elbow, and ribs during a 2019 crash. The incident occurred while he had been training for the Criterium du Dauphine in Roanne in France and led to a period of three years away from racing. He eventually returned to the Tour de France in 2021 with team Israel Start-Up Nation.
Froome won the Tour de France in 2013, 2015, 2016, and 2017.
His return to the popular event saw his hopes of placing well overall dashed when he sustained injuries in a late crash during the final throes of the first stage. He ultimately went on to secure a 133rd-place finish.
He also raced in last year’s Criterium, Tour of Romandie, and Volta a Catalunya.
