Murray Concerned Over Players’ Low Vax Rates
British tennis star Andy Murray says he’s feeling concerned by the low percentage of professional players believed to have been vaccinated. The number of pro-tennis players successfully jabbed is widely accepted to be below the 50 per cent mark.
Murray spoke to the media about his concerns ahead of this week’s US Open – this only shortly after the USTA’s announcement on Friday stipulating that all fans hoping to attend the major in person must at least have had their first jab.
The Brit said on Friday the main reason most people are getting in line to be vaccinated is because of a desire to look out for the well-being of others. He said professional players have a responsibility towards the wider public as they travel the world from one event to the next, adding that he felt happy and content with his own vaccination status.

Murray also commented on the plans already underway in anticipation of how things might work at next year’s Australian Open. While tournament organiser Craig Tiley has announced plans for a bio-bubble instead of a 2-week isolation period, Murray says he foresees issues with this type of arrangement. He says he also anticipates some changes in terms of arrangements for future events over the course of the coming months.
There appears to be a great deal of disparity among players in general regarding the taking of the vaccine. Only time will tell how this will affect an already on-wonky-footing world of professional tennis.
