F1 War Of Words Not Yet Over
The F1 war of words between Mercedes and Red Bull rages on following a dismissal by the FIA of a request by team Red Bull for a formal review into events that occurred during the recent British Grand Prix at Silverton.
The Hamilton-Verstappen controversy is clearly far from over – despite the FIA’s decision not to review the events surrounding Hamilton’s 10-second penalty incurred as a result of the dangerous pass performed during the opening lap of the event. The pass, which sent Verstappen crashing into track-side barriers at a speed of 180 mph, put an end to the Red Bull driver’s race.
Mercedes this week wasted no time accusing team Red Bull and Verstappen of attempting to willfully tarnish driver Lewis Hamilton’s reputation in its attempts to launch a review by the FIA of the penalty imposed on the British world champion.

Team Mercedes also issued a statement welcoming the decision to reject Red Bull’s application for review. In their statement, the team expresses gratitude to the FIA for putting the matter to bed, adding that it now looks forward to pressing on with its competition for the 2021 F1 World Championship title.
According to the outcome issued by the FIA, the evidence presented by Red Bull in its request for an official review did not contain any “fresh” evidence not already previously reviewed. The failure to present new evidence meant a failure to warrant a re-trial, said the FIA in its response to the request by Red Bull.
