Hamilton Signs One More Year With Mercedes
Seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton has extended his contract with Mercedes by signing a one-year deal extension. The famous Brit ended his contract saga with the team on Tuesday, after a little over a month without any deal inked with any team.
The 36-year-old, who was knighted in this year’s New Year Honours, and who has spent the larger part of the F1 off-season training in the U.S., said he’s feeling excited to be heading into an impressive ninth season alongside the rest of his teammates at Mercedes. Hamilton said team Mercedes had achieved phenomenal things as a unit, and that they are a unit who now get to look forward to achieving even more great and incredible things, both on as well as away from the racing track.

Hamilton also spoke about his commitment to the fight against racism, and his and the team’s drive to support greater diversity in the sport. Not only did the Brit persuade Mercedes to change their traditional silver livery to black from silver, in support of the cause, but he also this week announced that he and Mercedes would be joint-launching a foundation that will be dedicated to inclusivity in sport.
Hamilton, who is now preparing for the new F1 campaign set to kick off in Bahrain in March, said he could not wait to get back on the track. He last season outperformed Michael Schumacher by surpassing the number of victories aced by the German throughout his illustrious career.
