Corbin Strong Confident In ‘21 Olympic Debut
Kiwi cycling star Corbin Strong says he expects the Tokyo Olympic Games to go ahead as planned despite Tokyo’s current status of city in a state of emergency.
Olympic organisers, too, have been doggedly insistent about this year’s Games going ahead even as Tokyo reels under daily new cases and the challenges associated with being declared a super-spreader hotspot.
2012 London Olympics organiser Sir Keith Mills has however said that in his opinion, Tokyo is beginning to look more and more unlikely a prospect for 2021. He even went so far as to say that if he had been the one in charge of organising this year’s Games, he would already have started falling back on a cancellation contingency plan.
Mills also said Tokyo’s organising committee would have to make an official call in about a month’s time. Tokyo Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga has however sworn a vow to get the rising number of infections under control so as to ensure a safe and successful Olympic run for everyone involved.

That Strong would be eager to see the Olympic Games go ahead as planned is no surprise – especially given his current form. The world track cycling champ on the weekend added yet another phenomenal accomplishment to his resume when he won the epic New Zealand Cycle Classic.
His most recent win came just a little over two months after his Tour of Southland fourth-place finish.
The 2020 track points-leader will this weekend return to the saddle for the 164 km elite single-day Gravel & Tar Classic in Manawatu.
