Black Cap Jamieson Breaches ICC Code of Conduct
On Monday the 28th of December, during the 75th over of Pakistan’s first innings, Kyle Jamieson fielded the ball on his follow-through. But he threw it in Faheem Ashraf’s direction at high speed, even though the batsman wasn’t at the stumps. Ashraf was inside the popping crease but had no intention of taking a run. Charges of breaching the International Cricket Council’s Code of Conduct were levelled against Jamieson by Chris Gaffaney and Wayne Knights, the on-field umpires. Chris Brown, the third umpire, and Shuan Haig, the fourth official, did as well.
Jamieson acknowledged the breach and has accepted the penalty meted out by the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees’ Jeff Crowe and approved by the ICC Operations Department. This is in accordance with the novel coronavirus COVID-19 interim playing regulations. Jamieson’s admitting the offence removed the need for a formal hearing.

Level 1 breaches usually carry a minimum sanction of an official reprimand and a maximum punishment of 50% of the player’s fee for the match along with one or two demerit points. Jamieson has only been fined 25% of his payment for the Bay Oval Test. It was ruled that he broke the rule laid out in Article 2.9 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This covers throwing balls at or near players dangerously or inappropriately during international games.
Jamieson marks his first offence in the past 24 months with this ruling and has also had a demerit point added to his disciplinary record.
