Lydia Ko Off To A Promising New Season Start

While Kiwi golfer Lydia Ko may have ended her 2020 LPGA Tour without a win, she’ll be heading into next season with her highest world ranking in more than a year.

Ko, who has now officially broken into the top030, has climbed a stunning seven places to No. 29 following last week’s 5th place finish at the CME Group Championships in Florida. It certainly appears that despite her 2-year+ title drought, she’s finally making leaps of progress as a result of her teaming up with new coach Sean Foley earlier this year. Foley is a former Tiger Woods tutor.

Out of a total of thirteen events played by the star golfer this year, she managed to rake in three top-five placements, five to-ten finishes, and nine top-twenties. She missed only a single cut – a result she’ll be eager to build on heading into next season.

Heading into the final round of the recently concluded CME Group Champs on Monday (NZ time), Ko’s sitting at five shots back off the pace following a four-way tie for ninth position, Ko needed something of a miracle to finally end her 32-month winless drought. Unfortunately for the 23-year-old, not even a faultless three-under 69 proved edge enough to catapult her ahead of namesake Jin Young Ko as she went for the victory kill.

According to Ko, her final round of the season had been a difficult hill to climb since immediately after the restart. She did however add that she was satisfied to have played a really solid game – a definite improvement over recent previous events.
