Rafael Nadal Seeded Third for Wimbledon
World number two Rafael Nadal has been seeded in third for Wimbledon this year behind Novak Djikovic and world number three Roger Federer. The Spanish player now has a 50-50 chance of being in the same half as his Serbian opponent, and it’s possible that the two may meet in the semi finals matches.
If Nadal had been seeded second, rather than Federer, he would not have had the chance to meet the defending champion before the final game. The women’s seeding reflect the world rankings, making Serena Williams 11th while British Johanna Konta is 19th.
Wimbledon seeding is different from that of other Grand Slam events in that it doesn’t always follow the world rankings, and is directly affected by grass court performances. Talking about his seeding, Nadal stated that it doesn’t feel right to be seeing behind eight-time champion Federer for the championships. Last year’s finalists and world number eight Kevin Anderson has been placed in fourth seed, while John Isner has moved up to ninth after his run in the 2018 semi finals.

Anderson’s elevation to a higher seed means that Stefanos Tsitsipas, Dominic Thiem, and Alexander Zverev have all dropped by a single position on the roster compared to their overall world rankings. British Kyle Edmund, who is currently 31st in the world, is the 20th seeded, while Jamie Murray and Neal Skupski are seeded 10th for the men’s doubles. Ashleigh Barty is seeded first for the ladies’ seeding.
