The TAB Monopoly & Betway
Under the amended Racing Industry Act 2020, the New Zealand government granted TAB NZ an exclusive monopoly on all sports and race betting.
- Status: Betway is an offshore operator and cannot promote or accept sports wagers from persons in NZ.
- Enforcement: The Department of Internal Affairs (DIA) monitors IP addresses to prevent access to unlicensed sportsbooks.
- Future: Betway may apply for one of the 15 online casino licenses arriving in late 2026, which would allow them to offer slots and table games legally.
Account Closures & Withdrawals
If you have an existing balance at Betway, it is recommended that you withdraw your funds immediately, as the operator is withdrawing from the NZ sports market.
- Withdrawal Speed: Bitcoin and eZeeWallet remain the fastest (under 24 hours).
- Bank Transfers: Still supported but incur a $50 fee and take up to 10 days.
